Orchids, at the Halekulani

Whenever I make it back to my childhood home of Honolulu, I look to stay at the Halekulani. The hotel itself is outstanding, the best in the city, but as home of three fine restaurants, there are other reasons to stay there. For me, it is the hotel's beachside restaurant, Orchids. The restaurant sits at the edge of the hotel property bordering the beach which means that on one side you have views of the vast blue Pacific, and on the other views of Waikiki and Diamond Head that few hotel dining spots can offer. I have breakfast every morning there when I am in town. Meeting friends? There is no better place to catch up than at a table on on the oceanfront lanai with the glorious Hawaiian sunshine pouring in and the views nothing short of spectacular. You will have a very fine choice of breakfast ideas afforded you by the menu, none of which will disappoint. My personal favoriet? Eggs over easy, Portuguese sausage and white rice, along the hotel's signature Halekulani iced tea. I could have that every day. Erm....wait a minute--I do! Take it from someone who has checked all the breakfast spots in Honolulu out, breakfast being my favorite meal of the day--this is without a doubt the best place in Honolulu to sit back and take advantage of simply being in Hawaii. And if by chance you are in Honolulu on a Sunday, Orchids also happens to serve the best Sunday Brunch in the state at a startlingly reasonble price given what is on offer both in the variety of food--all excellenty prepared and presented--and of course the entire illuminating ambience of the place. Get a table on the lanai, and you'll be talking about this for years to come.
