“The Modern is just so awesome. It's a beautiful, modern spot but without any of the pretension or snobbery that can sometimes plague these types of restaurants. We once had a waiter who was so knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and quick thinking that we tried to get him to work at Tablet! The food is some of the best this city has to offer and the setting - from the decor to the views of the sculpture garden, is possibly the best n the city. Kind of randomly, they have a cocktail that has rose petals that will knock you off your feet which we highly recommend as long as you aren't planning to operate any heavy machinery afterwards (and that includes laptops). Take your jacket off and dine casually at the bar or enjoy your meal in all your jacketed glory in the formal dining room. It's all good.”

“The Modern is within the MoMA complex, but is a creation of Danny Meyer, the restaurant entrepreneur who has a near perfect track record with other places in the city like Gramercy tavern. The food is innovative and good, the service is very good (as always in Danny Meyer's restaurants) and the decor is modern, swanky and elegant in a way that is reminiscent of the 50's. In a city where there is always something better and newer, it is one of a handful of restaurants I go back to. If mid-town had more place like that, I would spend a lot more time there.”
