“The location, two blocks back from Manhattan Beach, is fantastic. There is a Pain Quotidien next door and a great new sushi restaurant across the plaza from Shades. The exterior of the hotel is fantastic, a modern twist on the endless 60s motels you will have stayed in on a roadtrip with your parents. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the bar is constantly busy.”

They offer free bicycles to tool around the town or along the beach.The hotel arranged for a rental car (which was sweet - the car was delivered to the hotel & I could leave it there too). I forgot to fill it up with gas when I left it (the charge was going to be over $8 a gallon). I asked whether someone at the hotel could take care of it for me as it was late & I had to get up early the next morning for a flight. The head of security volunteered to fill the tank for me after he finished work (about 2am). I gave him a tip & about $25 for gas, hoping that he'd do it. When I got the bill from the rental car company there was no extra charge for gas. It was _very_ nice for the security manager to do that for me. Made me feel extra good about an already fine stay.”
