Beautiful hotel in the heart of St Petersburg!
-
The price was right for the current economic environment.

This hotel is very pleasant and a perfect base from which to explore the city. Its central location is unparallelled except by its sister hotel next door (the slightly fancier, and pricier, Astoria).I chose this hotel on the basis of its simple but chic interiors; the great price compaered to many other hotels in the city, and of course by the virtue of it being recommended by Tablet. My room was a Parisienne belnd of creams and reds, cream painted wooden furniture & polished chrome lamps; natural coloured linen curtains trimmed with red and cute little cushions on the bed embroidered with the hotel's monogram.Breakfast was very good; although cooked items had to be specifically asked for. I did exactly that, and was not disappointed. I would also recommend asking for a latte/cappucino rather than taking some of the filter coffee which is offered as standard - no extra charge and so much better! I took a dip in the small pool at the health club - certainly not the best pool in terms of size (and also it was a bit chilly) but it is rather charming - as you swim you see the dome of St Isaac's out of the enormous picture window.Staff were plentiful, courteous, helpful & unobtrusive - the perfect combination. Unless my budget increases in future to allow me to stay at the Astoria, the Angleterre will be destination of choice.
